There are numerous compelling reasons to visit Lech in the summer. With breathtaking landscapes and a wide range of outdoor activities, there’s no shortage of things to keep you engaged.
Even better, many of the activities in and around Lech are complimentary if you possess a Lech Card, which is provided at no cost if your stay in town exceeds three nights.
Hiking in Lech
If you’re used to seeing the hills around Lech covered in snow during the winter, you might be surprised by their transformation in the summer months. The once snow-covered slopes turn into lush green landscapes adorned with colorful wildflowers. Lech takes advantage of snow machines to ensure a thick layer of snow remains on the slopes during winter, which not only facilitates winter sports but also helps preserve the natural beauty of the terrain for the summer season.
To make the most of your hiking adventures in Lech, you can start by picking up a complimentary “Worlds of Hiking” brochure from the tourist office. This guide will lead you to a variety of hiking trails suitable for different fitness levels, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. For those seeking a more adventurous experience, the Green Ring offers a captivating three-day circular hiking route that takes you past picturesque mountain lakes, hidden caves, and mesmerizing waterfalls. It’s an opportunity to connect with nature and explore the stunning landscapes that Lech has to offer during the summer.
Unwind with Mountain Yoga
For a truly rejuvenating experience, consider immersing yourself in relaxation and wellness amid the stunning mountains of Lech with Arlberg Alpin. Their Mountain Yoga Trail provides a unique opportunity to harmonize with nature and unwind in a tranquil setting.
As you embark on this journey, you’ll be enveloped by the crisp mountain air, and the cool, soft grass beneath your feet will serve as your natural yoga mat. The panoramic mountain views that surround you create a truly captivating backdrop for your yoga session.
Your guide, Annalisa, will lead you on a gentle hike into the heart of the mountains, offering a chance to soak in the natural beauty of the area. The experience culminates in a yoga session that goes beyond traditional practice. It’s about connecting with the earth and the environment that envelops you, fostering a sense of unity with the natural world. This combination of yoga and nature in such a breathtaking setting is bound to leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized.
Rüfikopf Cable Car
During the summer season, the local cable cars offer a wonderful perk for Lech Card holders – they’re free of charge! Hop aboard the Rüfikopfbahn, and within a matter of minutes, you’ll ascend to an impressive elevation of 2,350 meters. The views you’ll encounter at Rüfikopf are nothing short of spectacular, and on clear days, you’ll be treated to panoramic vistas that stretch in every direction, thanks to the 360° observation platform.
Upon reaching the summit, you’ll discover the Panoramarestaurant Rüfikopf, a delightful spot where you can sit, dine, and fully immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring views. Start your day with an early morning mountain breakfast or savor the delicious flavors of fondue while basking in the sunset’s golden glow every Friday throughout July and August. And if you’re feeling energetic and want to burn off those delightful calories, Rüfikopf serves as the starting point for numerous hiking trails, including the Geoweg Trail, which offers an intriguing exploration of the local geology’s 200 million-year history.
Explore the Rich World of Local Herbs
Every Tuesday throughout the summer, Veronika, a local expert, conducts a captivating guided “herb hike” through the picturesque valley that envelops Lech. This engaging experience is just one of the many themed hikes that you can enjoy at no extra cost when you have your Lech Card.
Embark on a journey of exploration into the natural wonders of the surrounding countryside as you delve into the fascinating world of local herbs alongside certified herbs teacher Veronika. Discover the unique properties and diverse uses of alpine herbs, and don’t miss her insights into which herbs find their way into the production of schnapps! It’s a wonderful opportunity to deepen your connection with nature and unveil a whole new dimension of Lech’s charm.
Explore the Huber Hus Museum
One of the most iconic and charming features of alpine villages is undoubtedly the traditional alpine chalets. So, while in Lech, why not venture inside to discover their intriguing interiors? The Huber Hus, a building dating back to 1590, has undergone a meticulous restoration process, resulting in an authentic representation of a 16th-century alpine house. This is your opportunity to step back in time and gain insight into life as it once was in the mountains.
Upon entering the Huber Hus, you’ll be greeted by knowledgeable guides who are eager to share their expertise and provide you with a captivating journey through history. As you explore the chalet, you’ll be transported to a bygone era. Additionally, be sure to visit the upper floor, where temporary exhibits offer further glimpses into the rich history of Lech. It’s a truly immersive experience that offers a deeper appreciation for the heritage of this alpine village.
Visit the Lakes
Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to explore these picturesque spots during my visit, and it’s a regret I carry with me because the lakes near Lech are renowned for their breathtaking beauty. There are two notable lakes, Spullersee and Formarinsee, both located not far from Lech, and they are easily accessible via local buses.
Among these, Lake Formarin, also known as Formarinsee, has earned the distinction of being voted the most beautiful place in Austria—a title that piques curiosity and beckons exploration. This enchanting lake is renowned for its intense blue waters and idyllic mountain surroundings, making it an absolute must-visit destination. The scenery here is nothing short of stunning.
However, I must emphasize that both lakes, Spullersee and Formarinsee, have their own unique charm and offer a range of beautiful hiking trails that allow you to immerse yourself in nature’s wonders. And for those who are feeling adventurous, a refreshing dip in the chilly, snow-melt waters could be a memorable experience, albeit a chilly one! These lakes are truly hidden gems of the alpine landscape and are well worth discovering.

During my stay in Lech, I had the pleasure of lodging at the Hotel Omesberg, and it turned out to be an exceptional choice. Situated atop a vantage point, this hotel provides a commanding view that overlooks the entire town, treating guests to breathtaking vistas right from their balconies. The experience of waking up to such stunning scenery each morning was truly unforgettable.

Additionally, their on-site restaurant delivers culinary delights that will satisfy even the most discerning palate. I must say that dining there was a gastronomic journey in itself.
As for the accommodations, the rooms at Hotel Omesberg are both spacious and incredibly comfortable. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of comfort and attention to detail in every aspect of the room’s design and furnishings.
Based on my experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Omesberg for anyone planning a visit to Lech. It not only offers luxurious comfort but also provides a prime location. In fact, you can reach the town center with just a short, leisurely ten-minute walk, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the local attractions, shops, and restaurants.
