Unlike nearby Cancun, Holbox Island actually lacks any major resorts. The hotel balcony offers views with black Acapulco chairs and a glass railing adorned with wooden decor. In front of the balcony, there’s a lush canopy of palm leaves, and the sunset shimmers through the foliage.
During my recent trip to Holbox, I stayed at Suites Villas el Jardín, a boutique apartment hotel exclusively for adults. I enjoyed my stay at this tranquil establishment, set within a courtyard lush with tropical plants, creating a serene atmosphere.
The location was perfect, just one block away from the main square and all the activities in the heart of Holbox town. It took less than a 4-minute walk to reach the beach! Nevertheless, the hotel was peaceful at night, providing a truly tranquil ambiance. It was the best of both worlds!
My room was one of the deluxe apartments, more like a suite. It featured a spacious living area with a fully equipped small kitchen, dining space, and a full-size refrigerator. This made it a perfect choice if you didn’t want to dine out for every meal. I enjoyed preparing breakfast on my own on the balcony each morning and brought takeout when I didn’t feel like dining out in the evenings.
Inside the rooms at Suites Villas el Jardín in Holbox, there was a king-size bed with crisp white linens and a colorful geometric patterned throw at the foot of the bed. The room had gray tiled floors and white walls, with an open closet on the other side of the bed.
The bedroom was separate from the living area, incredibly spacious, and had a large closet. The room was beautifully decorated: simple yet modern with a touch of vibrant local style.
The standard apartments were similar, just a bit smaller (646 square feet instead of 700 square feet). Additionally, the deluxe apartments featured a balcony with views of the courtyard, a real highlight in my opinion, so I recommend splurging on that!
There was a small pool in the garden, more for soaking and relaxation than swimming. However, with the beach so close by, I didn’t end up using it!
Las Nubes

This is the very last beachfront hotel in Holbox before you enter the protected nature reserve. As a result, you’ll find this place to be exceptionally peaceful, surrounded by the wonders of nature.
The hotel offers a variety of room types, including standard rooms, suites, and bungalows. Each room is meticulously decorated and furnished with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The cozy bungalows are a perfect choice for honeymooning couples, complete with hammocks, terraces, and balconies for sunbathing.

I stayed here during my initial visit to Holbox a few years ago, and the location was spot-on! It’s close to all the bars and beaches yet maintains a peaceful atmosphere at night. While Tribu Hostel leans towards being a party hostel, Barco Verde is considerably more laid-back.
This charming hostel offers six spacious rooms, comprising four dormitories and two private rooms. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning (available at night), Wi-Fi access, fans, private bathrooms, and hot showers. The four dorms can accommodate four to five guests each and feature curtains for added privacy, along with phone charging points and lockers. The two private rooms comfortably accommodate four people, boasting two double beds.
